I am seriously considering quitting DA. I still love DA as a rich community where I have friends, see great works, learn, receive wonderful comments. But the technical problems are getting to my nerves.
I am really frustrated, and out of patience. How *beep* difficult can it be to develop a system that works??? I am *beep* paying for this!!! :angered:
Does anyone feel the same way?
Does anyone know of a good alternative (other than Flickr)?
:frustrated:

I've considered leaving a few times. But, in spite of some of the design flaws here, where to find an international discussion forum on what we produce ? Thirty bucks is cheap for what I get out of it; by no means a revenue generating website, but a good place to get international feedback.

I posted something similar in my journal a few days back...it's unfortunate, but I just find myself spending more time on flickr and uploading less and less to DA. The interface on flickr works far more smoothly and has some very intuitive features. On DA it seems I spend too much time hitting "reload" to have much fun.

I understand and agree (obviously) on the issue of technique. However, I do feel that dA is a better community, more interesting works. That is my dillema. Until now I haven't found a better visual-arts community. I have a Flickr acount but I hardly use it.

You're right - it's definitely less about the community and more about showing images on flickr. I don't know if you're interested, but I have found one group on flickr that has a really strong community. The threads are incredibly busy and the conversation ranges from photo topics to completely unrelated chatter and the attitude is generally a positive one. It's a different vibe than DA, but a good one all the same. All that said...DA is it's own breed of community and it's a shame that technical issues have taken away from that.

For the time being I am going to stick around for a bit and try to focus on the content instead of the technique. I will see how things look when my memberships expires in december.

There are a lot of issues with DA that aren't just to do with
the technical problems. I found not taking it so seriously,
not becoming a member and focusing in on the people who
give me serious crit has worked for me.

Good point. Most of the time that is my approach also. When I wrote the journal it was getting on my nerves though...

I utterly agree as I pay for the site as well and for a week my gallery wasn't even visible at all and now it goes back and forth. I direct people here to try to get work and it's very frustrating.

Joost I recently posed a few questions in a journal about the size and scope of the site and whether it is effective or serving the needs of so many varied specialities with any kind of meaning.
I have posed the question of whether there are enough of us here to start a new site and what it may take. Are you interested?

I fully agree. Since I signed up as a member I have to put up with too long response times or no server response at all while surfing on numerous occasions (this happens irrespective my location). All this did not change after signing up as subscriber. Since the new interface, I have been experiencing new bugs, such as deviations that do not show up on my gallery page, but do show up as Recent Deviations. Very frustrating. Also, since the new interface went live, deletion of comments has become very annoying: it takes at least two attempts to delete them.

Personally, all the good things about DA still outweigh the technical annoyances. It's just that I will not continue my paid subscription, but I will definately stick around as a "member". Until these technical annoyances have been resolved, I'm loath to pay as a subscriber.

Last but not least: PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE

I also see the good things about dA, and it has given me a lot of pleasure and learning. During the nine months I have been here I always thought that one day the crew would solve all the (small?) technical issues. I have given up on that now. But I do feel that contact with fellow artists is more important than the anoying user-interface. Thanks for your comment.

i think we would learn if we were made privvy that there were surprisingly few people developing software for this giant site. we pay for certain enhancements, so i'll bet their take is that the most of it is free. i think da has always been buggy. i don't like the new version, but i'll bet it will improve. :D

I agree. It's getting increasingly frustrating.
Although I think dA has the best arts community online, there
are great alternatives out there.

I also believe dA is the best place to exchange and discuss art. I have always accepted the technical drawbacks, but always with the idea that one day it will all work fine. I fear that is not going to happen. Some people don't know what I am talking about. I just don't understand that....
Thanks for the links. I will have a good look at them.

Well, I agree with you, and I know others are feeling the same. So there are a few of us with you on this. :)

Are you specifically referring to the new version? I haven't really had too many problems until now. I agree, it is annoying, especially when we are paying for it, but don't leave yet! I think it's very, very diffficult to roll out a system as complicated as this without a few glitches, and as a few people have pointed out, the best way to test is to use your users. I'm hoping they'll fix they problems over the coming months. If they don't, I think they will roll back to the previous version. No-one likes a system that doesn't work, especially those who designed it. I think we just have to give it a bit more time.

Also, please don't leave!!!

I do get the impression a lot of users experience problems, but apparently not everyone, which is strange.

PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ... I love your work so much!!!!!!!!
But what problems do you have?
I'm here for so many time and don't have any ...

Have you problems with the layout of the new DA version?
I don't like the new layout very much, but there is a great CSS file, and now everything works fine. Look here:

I left dA and came back after trying everything else out there that I could find. The one thing that keeps me here are all the good friends I have made; but believe me there are more important things that can send me packing again... The old system was nowhere near perfect either
